UEFA: Nissan to replace Ford as Champions League sponsor

Nissan car manufacturer is negotiating with UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) to replace Ford as Champions League sponsor in 2014-15, according to our information, on 13/03/2014. The contract, which could be announced during the final of the 2014 edition, in Lisbon (POR) on 24/05/2014, should bind both parties until 2016-17.

U.S. automobile manufacturer Ford had announced they will no longer sponsor the Champions League after the 2013-14 season, on 11/03/2014. Ford has been a partner of UEFA since the 1992-93 edition.

Supporting the Champions League would help Nissan to halt the decline of their sales in Europe, down 4% on 2013. Global sales of the Japanese carmaker were up 3.3% to 5.1 million vehicles this year.

  • Nissan's commitment in football right now is mainly focused on the partnership with the Spanish national team, the 2010 World Cup champion and winner of the last two editions of the Euro in 2008 and 2012.
