LFP: organization of the Coupe de la Ligue BKT to be "suspended after the 2019-2020 edition"

"The board of directors, and then the General Assembly of the LFP has decided to suspend the organization of the Coupe de la Ligue after the 2019-20 edition," announced the French League of Professional Football, on 18/09/2019.

"Depending on market conditions, the LFP reserves the right to restart this competition later," added the body.

The LFP did not receive any offer, on 04/12/2018, for the 2020-2024 TV rights to this competition, the tender of which had been launched at the same time as that of the Domino's Ligue 2, on 06/11/2018. Canal+ and France Télévisions hold the 2016-2020 TV rights to the Coupe de la Ligue BKT for €23.9m a year.

"This decision will lighten the match schedule, give players more recovery time, and offer an extra place in the European cups via the Ligue 1 table at the end of the 2020-21 season," said the LFP.
