Italy: 38.4% less injuries in stands at professional club stadiums in 2018-19 than in 2014-15

There were 101 injuries to spectators, stewards or law enforcement in 2018-19 in the stadiums of the Serie A TIM, the Serie BKT and the Serie C professional football clubs, representing a 38.4% decrease compared to 2014-15 season (164), according to the Italian National Observatory on Sports Events in its annual report published on 17/09/2019.

The number of matches concerned also decreased (-40.2%), from 72 (2014-15 season) to 43 in 2018-19: 18 in the Serie A TIM, 15 in the Serie BKT and 10 in the Serie C.

In total, 1,853 professional football matches were played, during which 8,000 fewer police officers were deployed than in 2017-18, a decrease of 4.5%. The number of individuals reported for incidents in 2018-19 was 757, or 400 less than the previous season. Arrests also decreased from 100 in 2017-18 to 39 in 2018-19.
