FIGC: Italian Federation study shows that football is the top sport in the world

265 million licensees worldwide, 1.7 million affiliated teams, a total turnover of $42.9bn (€38.8bn), or 47% of the turnover of the sport sector on a global scale, 3.6 billion cumulative audience viewers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia (see infographic below), these are some of the figures in the economic, financial and strategic football report presented by the Italian Football Federation on 18/09/2019.

Niccolò Donna, head of the Centro Studi (research centre) of the FIGC, analyzes these figures, which show that football is the world's leading sport and puts the data in an international context, during the second edition of the Sports Communication Festival scheduled from 19 to 21/09/2019 at the Congress Center of Via Salaria in Rome (ITA).

The report also examines the main regulatory developments that characterized the football sector (Bosman ruling, introduction of financial fair play, new FIGC national licensing system, and more).
