Bayern Munich: vice-president Karl Hopfner becomes chairman "until further notice"

The vice-president of Bayern Munich (Bundesliga), Karl Hopfner, became the new chairman of the Bavarian club "until further notice" after the resignation of Uli Hoeness on 14/03/2014, following his sentencing to three and a half years in prison for tax evasion.

The president of Adidas, Herbert Hainer, vice-president of the supervisory board of FC Bayern Munich AG holding company, was appointed chairman of the governing body of the club also replacing Uli Hoeness.

"Uli Hoeneß has always devoted his leadership qualities, great personal commitment and outstanding lifelong effort to the best interests of FC Bayern München. He is very largely responsible for FC Bayern München becoming one of the most successful and attractive clubs in the world both in sporting and financial terms. We offer him heartfelt thanks and gratitude for this,” said Herbert Hainer.
