Serie A: moving towards financial fair-play and workforce limits, no change to co-ownership

"We worked with the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) to achieve greater congruence with EU rules. We studied the best way to adopt financial fair-play in Italy, as well as limiting the size of club workforces, similarly to other European competitions. The limit on workforce size could apply from next season (2014-15), according to the classic model of 25 registered players and an unlimited number of under 21's," said Maurizio Beretta, president of the Lega di Serie A, after the meeting of the board of the professional league that manages the Italian first division on 03/03/2014.

The agenda of the meeting was to focus on technical standards, written in collaboration with the FIGC, regarding the registration and transfer of players, as well as the enforcement of UEFA's (Union of European Football Associations) financial fair-play in Serie A.

"Regarding these issues, we must now define the timing and modalities of implementation. In the absence of unanimity, no decision was taken on the issue of ownership of the players," said the Lega di Serie A on 03/03/2014.
