"LaLiga's salary cap ('tope salarial' in Spanish), published in September, is applicable to every club in the first or second division for the 2019-20 season, and is a powerful means given to LaLiga associated with economic control in principle with a precise objective: to force clubs to balance their budgets and reduce their debt (in particular towards the public treasury)," said Mathieu Guyot, in charge of financing and credit insurance activity at the French consulting, financing and risk management company Sport Value, on 19/09/2019.

"In 2018-19, UD Almería (in the Spanish second division, named LaLiga SmartBank in 2019-20) had a salary cap of €6.5m (its revenues excluding transfers being €8.7m). For 2019-20, its salary cap reported in June was €5.4m, while the cap published in September was €18.1m. UD Almería was able to recruit many players thanks to the €12.7m increase in its salary cap," added Guyot, who accompanied Turki Al-Sheikh "in the takeover of UD Almería, then the management of the club post-acquisition in accordance with LaLiga regulations, including the salary cap.…
