Italy: AS Roma bans a supporter for life for racist insults and is congratulated by the Federation

"I congratulate AS Roma for its decisive action in the fight against discrimination, together with the police forces," said Gabriele Gravina, president of the FIGC, on 27/09/2019, after the club's decision to ban a supporter for life, who had made racist insults addressed, via the social network Instagram, to AS Roma's Brazilian defender Juan Jesus.

"You already know what to do with someone like that," wrote Juan Jesus on Instagram, relaying the message to his club. This is the first time an Italian club has banned a fan for life for racism.

"Such acts show us how football can provide concrete and ethical answers to questions that affect civil society as a whole. We are on the right track to eliminate racists and violent players from our world," said the president of the Italian Federation, while the FIGC Federal Council will be addressing the issue of racism at its meeting scheduled on 01/10/2019.
