FIFA: collaboration agreement with WHO "to promote healthy lifestyles through football globally"

"To promote healthy lifestyles through football globally" is the goal of the collaboration agreement between the World Health Organization (WHO) and FIFA, signed in Geneva (SUI), by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (ETH), director general of WHO, and Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI), president of the International Federation, on 04/10/2019.

As part of this four-year agreement (available to download), which covers four areas (see below), "WHO will provide technical advice to FIFA on a variety of health matters, such as ensuring tobacco-free environments at FIFA events and encouraging national football federations to adopt tobacco-free policies, including at stadiums," said the two bodies.

"Joint programmes and initiatives with national associations and networks of footballers, coaches and volunteers will increase participation in physical activity in line with WHO guidance, and help to increase physical activity through football," explained the two global partners.
