UK: launch of the call for tenders for European Cup TV rights 2021-2024

The call for tenders for the rights to broadcast the European Cups (Champions League, Europa League and the future Europa Conference League) in the United Kingdom on the 2021-2024 cycle was launched on 07/10/2019 with a submission date of 11/11/2019, according to the British newspaper The Times.

The British pay-TV operator BT Sport, which holds the rights to broadcast the Champions League and Europa League over the 2015-2018 cycle, extended its rights over the 2018-2021 cycle by an estimated £394m (€437m) per season, up 31.8% compared to the previous cycle on 06/03/2017.

One Champions League game per week could once again be broadcast free-to-air in the United Kingdom after six seasons of being exclusively on pay TV (excluding the final), since the free and private TV group ITV would prepare a joint bid for this call for tenders with the pay-TV operator Sky, according to The Times. ITV broadcast one free-to-air match per week during the 2012-2015 cycle.
