2022 World Cup in Qatar: "A spectacular competition with fresh players" (G. Infantino, FIFA)

"I think it's fair, once every 100 years, to play it (World Cup) where it has never been done before. With a twist: the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be held in November-December (from 21/11 to 18/12/2022). Technically, it will be a spectacular competition because the players will arrive fresh and not at the end of an entire season as is the case when it is played in summer," said Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI), president of FIFA, at the Festival dello Sport organised by the Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport in Trento (Trentino - Alto Adige, ITA) on 10/10/2019.

"In terms of logistics, everything will happen within a 70km radius and that's a very good thing. The pitches and stadiums will be spectacular and we will discover a part of the world that we don't all know. There was also a certain skepticism for Russia for 2018 and it was an exceptional World Cup. I am convinced that the stadiums will be full: from Europe, you can get there in five or six hours and we will be in the period approaching Christmas," said Gianni Infantino.
