Vivendi secures provisional suspension of Mediaset's merger to create a new holding company

The Commercial Court of Madrid suspended, on 10/10/2019, the merger project of the Italian media group Mediaset and its subsidiary Mediaset España into one holding company based in the Netherlands, to be called MediaForEurope (MFE).

This merger was authorized by the extraordinary general meeting of the Spanish subsidiary of Mediaset on 04/09/2019.

The Commercial Court of Madrid was called to intervene by a legal motion from the French media and entertainment group Vivendi.

  • "Vivendi is satisfied with the decision of the Madrid court, who acknowledged that the proposed merger was improperly imposed by Mediaset and its controlling shareholder Finvest, to the detriment of all minority shareholders. The legal proceedings Vivendi has launched in the Netherlands and Italy are continuing," said a spokesman for Vivendi, to Agence France Presse, on 11/10/2019.
