Bulgaria-England: The FA asks UEFA to launch a racism investigation and the BFU president resigns

"We can confirm that England players were subjected to abhorrent racist chanting while playing in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Bulgaria (0-6)," said The Football Association via Twitter, after witnessing racist abuse from Bulgarian fans during the match at the Stadion Vasil Levski (44,000 capacity) in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Monday 14/10/2019. Consequently, the president of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU), UEFA executive committee member and former Bulgarian international goalkeeper Borislav Mihaylov, has stepped down after Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov called for his resignation.

The match was interrupted twice after England players fell victim to a range of racist abuse including monkey noises and Nazi salutes. Aston Villa FC (Premier League) defender Tyrone Mings (26 years old), who made his international debut, was targeted during the game.
