Rugby: Welsh Rugby Union posts a turnover of £90.5m and a net loss of £4.3m in 2019

Welsh Rugby Union posted a turnover of £90.5m (€100.9m) for the financial year 2019 (01/07/2018 to 30/06/2019) after "having hosted one less home fixture (six instead of the seven hosted in 2018)" at the Principality Stadium, announced the body on 22/10/2019.

"A planned loss of £4.3m (€4.8m, compared to a profit of £2.3m in 2018). Commercial income remained constant at £14.2m (€15.8m) but fewer third-party events, notably boxing, reduced other sources of income, including hospitality and catering income which was reduced by £4m (€4.46m). The Welsh Rugby Union Group re-invested a record £49.6m (£42.8m in 2018) across the game in Wales last year. Re-investment in professional Regional rugby rose by £6.5m to £33m (including re-investment in the Dragons, a subsidiary of the WRU)," continued the Welsh Rugby Union.
