"King Pele" to receive more than €18m in income in 2014

Brazilian, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also called Pele (triple winner of the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970) will receive more than €18m in revenues in 2014, said the U.S. economic website Bloomberg.com on 19/03/2014. This includes advertising rights, representation expenses and licencing profits.

The former player, born on 23/10/1940, holds the majority share of the Sport 10 company, founded in 2012 to monetise the Pele brand. Legends 10, an agency based in New York, exclusively manages the contracts of Sport 10. It has enabled Pele to sign agreements with Procter & Gamble Co. (hygiene), Volkswagen AG (automobile), Emirates (airline), Hublot (watchmaker) and Subway (fast food chain) since 2013. Legends 10 also signed a contract with Coca-Cola for the World Cup Trophy Tour.

Pele's income may reach €72.3m by the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, according to Paul Kernsley, CEO of Legends 10.
