Spain: Mediapro offers €1.5m to broadcast two Primera Iberdrola games per matchday

The Chinese-Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro is offering €1.5m to the Spanish Association of Women's Football Clubs (ACFF) to avoid a strike by female players over their pay conditions (scheduled for 16/11/2019) in exchange for the broadcasting of two Primera Iberdrola games per matchday on 04/11/2019.

Mediapro had acquired the broadcasting rights in Spain for 14 of the 16 clubs of the Spanish women's league from the Association of Women's Football Clubs for €9m (€3m per season) over the 2019-2022 cycle on 07/03/2019. FC Barcelona, Athletic Club and the promoted CD Tacón (which will be absorbed by Real Madrid CF on 01/07/2020) were the three non-signatory clubs.

Mediapro has been in conflict for several months with the RFEF (see below) which proposed that the Primera Iberdola clubs buy back their individual rights in order to market them collectively.

Mediapro thus proposed to "break the deadlock" by allowing the ACFF to accept the RFEF's proposal on condition that the group continues to broadcast two games per matchday on its free-TV channel Gol.
