AS Roma: a private 52,500-seat stadium inspired by the Colosseum for € 300m, to be delivered in 2016

AS Roma (Serie A) presented their private 52,500-seat stadium project, on 26/03/2014. The club hopes to be able to play in the venue, which will cost € 300m, at the beginning of the 2016-17 season. It will be located in the Tor di Valle district, south-west of the Italian capital. The club announced a capacity expandable to 60,000 seats for international events. The project of American architect Dan Meis was inspired by the Colosseum. The stadium will have public Wi-Fi access as well as a 360° screen under the roof.

James Pallotta, U.S. President of AS Roma, believes that the whole project, fully financed by the club could reach one billion euros. Roma will also provide funding for access roads. The stadium must be connected to the highway and the Roma-Lido railway line which also needs to be renovated. "Let us be clear, there will be no stadium if there is not any infrastructure that lead there," warned the mayor of Rome, Ignazio Marino, who nonetheless supports the project. The club is currently looking for a sponsor for the naming rights of the stadium.
