UEFA: Michel Platini says he is the "only person who can beat Joseph Blatter" in the FIFA election

"It is not a goal for me to go to FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). My purpose was to score goals, but I grew old and I became president. I am happy being UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) president, I love what I do, what I did," said Michel Platini, president of UEFA, on the sidelines of the annual congress of the European body in Astana (Kazakhstan), on the 27/03/2014.

"The problem is that Sepp Blatter (president of FIFA since 08/06/1998) said at first that he would retire. At that time, a lot of federations said they would think about me. But now, you know better than I, we don't know whether he will stand again. It is not a question about a person: him or not him. But it could weigh on my decision," said to AFP (Agence France Presse) Michel Platini, who believes he is "the only person who can beat Joseph Blatter."

Michel Platini has been president of UEFA since 26/01/2007. He was reelected on 22/03/2011 for a term of four years. The next elections for the presidency of UEFA will take place at the 2015 Congress, held in Vienna (AUT).
