Serie A TV rights: Mediapro offer to be evaluated by Assembly of the Italian League on 25/11/2019

The proposal of the Chinese-Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro to create a channel dedicated to the Serie A TIM for the domestic broadcasting rights for the 2021-2024 period will be studied by the General Assembly of the Lega Serie A on 25/11/2019. Mediapro would propose €1.15bn per season (plus €55m in intellectual property and archive rights and €78m for production), to Lega Serie A, over the 2021-2024 cycle, to produce and distribute a Serie A TIM channel, according to the Italian press on 30/07/2019.

"The clubs will need an additional 10 days to evaluate and decide (once the final proposal from Mediapro is delivered)," said Gaetano Miccichè, president of the Lega Serie A, on 28/10/2019.

Even if it accepts the Mediapro propsal, the Italian League will still have to launch a formal call for tenders for the domestic audiovisual rights to the 2021-2024 period, a subject that will also be on the agenda of the General Assembly on 25/11/2019. The financial offer of Mediapro could serve as a floor price for this future call for tenders according to the Italian press.
