Italy: "I announce my immediate resignation as president of the Lega Serie A" (G. Miccichè)

"I announce, by this statement, my immediate resignation from the position of president of the Lega Serie A. The rumours published today in the newspapers about the closure of the investigation regarding my appointment 20 months ago and of its possible outcome are unacceptable and oblige me to make this decision," stated Gaetano Miccichè on 19/11/2019.

The Italian Football Federation, via the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Italy, opened an investigation in October 2019, after receiving an anonymous letter about the circumstances of the vote held during the meeting of the Lega Serie A, on 19/03/2018, chaired by Giovanni Malagò, president of CONI and then extraordinary commissioner of the Lega Serie A, after which Gaetano Miccichè was unanimously elected president by acclammation of the 20 clubs of the first division (2017-18 season).
