The Criminal Court of Malaga (Andalusia, Spain) has sentenced a Spanish pirate network to pay €200,000 in compensation to LaLiga, €200,000 to Mediapro and €20,000 to the Spanish audiovisual services company Egeda, according to the Spanish football League and the Chinese-Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro, on 19/11/2019.

The manager of the pirate company has also been individually sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of €1,800 and the company to a fine of €40,000 as a legal entity. Furthermore, LaLiga, Mediapro and Egeda will each receive €10,000 for the reimbursement of their legal costs, for a total of €490,000 to be paid by the pirate network, "one of the largest sums ever paid by a pirate audiovisual network in Spain," affirmed LaLiga and Mediapro.

The pirate network had 5,000 customers who paid an average of €47 per month in subscription fees, according to the two entities.

"Piracy costs us €400m a year in Spain and €600m a year internationally" (J. Tebas, LaLiga, 06/03/2019)
