Brazil 2014: Nike to unveil the Portuguese away shirt

The U.S. sporting goods supplier, Nike, has unveiled the away shirt of the Portuguese team for the 2014 World Cup on 27/03/2014. It will be available for sale from 03/04/2014.

The white and blue shirt celebrates the centenary of the Portuguese Federation, with the dates 1914 and 2014 included in the logo. Portuguese cultural symbols are also present on the uniform. The Order of the Christ, a cross that was painted on the sails of the ships of Portuguese explorers in the 15^th century, is placed inside the back of the neck. The font of the names and numbers of players is based on old typefaces used on traditional signs in Portugal.

Nike extended its contract with the national team of Portugal until 2017-18 on 03/03/2014. The American brand has supported the Portuguese team since the 1997-98 season. The contract is "the most important" in the history of the federation, said Fernando Gomes, president of the FPF. This contract allows a reduction in public funding of the federation. It amounts to "less than 2%" in 2014
