TV Rights (2021-2024): UEFA Champions League could be broadcast on UEFA TV (OTT) in some countries

UEFA, which is currently marketing the broadcasting rights for the European Cups (Champions League, Europa League and the upcoming Europa Conference League) over the 2021-2024 cycle through TEAM Marketing, could offer these competitions on its OTT platform UEFA TV in some countries, according to Theodore Theodoridis, UEFA general secretary, in an article with the British business and financial daily The Financial Times, on 24/11/2019.

This would only affect a few markets outside Europe, where broadcasting rights are less than €5m or €10m per year, according to The Financial Times. UEFA TV, launched on 13/06/2019, which is currently offered free of charge (live broadcasting of women's and youth football matches, futsal competitions and archive footage of all UEFA competitions), would therefore, offer a paid subscription service directly to fans, similar to what the major US sports leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL) already do.
