2022 World Cup: Japan candidate if "FIFA had to seek an alternative" to Qatar

"If FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) look for an alternative (to the organisation of the 2022 World Cup by Qatar), we already have the stadiums that would meet the criteria to host it," said Kuniya Daini, president of the JFA (Japan Football Association) on 31/03/2014.

"We have the Olympics in 2020 (Tokyo). If there is a chance, we'd like to do it, although I don't know how likely that would be", added the Japanese leader to the French news agency, AFP, on 31/03/2014.

Michael Garcia, president of the investigatory chamber of the ethics committee of FIFA, is currently looking into the procedure for awarding the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar. In addition to the allegations of corruption after the victory of Qatar in the competition for the organisation of the 2022 World Cup, the emirate in the Middle East is facing criticism regarding the working conditions on construction sites related to the competition, as well as "the refusal of many football players to see the competition take place in the summer."
