AS Roma: "Building a new stadium at Tor di Valle is irresponsible" (F. Zaratti, Italian MP)

"The very idea of building a new stadium at Tor di Valle is irresponsible. The site is characterised by a high risk of landslides," said Filiberto Zaratti, member of the Italian Green Party, SEL (Sinistra e Libertà Ecologica), regarding the construction project of a stadium for AS Roma (Serie A) on 31/03/2014.

The club presented their private 52,500-seat stadium project, on 26/03/2014. The club hopes to be able to play in the venue, which will cost € 300m, at the beginning of the 2016-17 season. It will be located in the Tor di Valle district, south-west of the Italian capital. The site, located on the edge of the Tiber, is "protected from river floods. We have done enough research on this subject, we are very confident," said James Pallotta, president of AS Roma on 26/03/2014. The club reminded critics that the site of the future "Stadio della Roma" was an elevated spot. The area has experienced several floods in recent years.

A feasibility study of the project should be submitted to the Municipality of Rome by mid-April 2014. The City will make its decision based on the nature of…
