UEFA: 2022 World Cup qualifiers on the agenda of the Executive Committee meeting on 04/12/2019

The organisation of the European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and in particular the play-offs is on the agenda of the UEFA Executive Committee meeting scheduled to take place at the House of European Football in Nyon (SUI) on Wednesday 04/12/2019.

13 of the 55 European teams will participate in this XXII World Cup. These will first be the 10 winners of the qualifying groups (5 groups of 6 teams and 5 groups of 5, matches from 25/03 to 16/11/2021). It is above all the format of the play-offs for the last three places that the UEFA Executive Committee must define. The second 10 of the groups could participate in a knockout phase with 2 teams from the 2020-21 Nations League: the 6 winners of a first round would compete for the remaining three places in a second round.

Regarding the second edition of the Nations League, the Executive Committee must determine the "league phase draw and fixture list procedures."
