"You have to take the top 20 clubs in Africa and have them play in an African league. What I want, what FIFA wants and what football needs is to see African football shine. We want to bring it to the highest of heights and show the world the outstanding talent and amazingly gifted players your continent possesses," said Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, in Lubumbashi (DR Congo), on the occasion of the 80^th birthday of TP Mazembe, one of the most well-known clubs in Africa, on 28/11/2019.

"Such a league can generate at least $200m in revenue, which would put it in the top 10 in the world, overnight. To do this, we want to implement an approach with three pillars: refereeing; infrastructure; and competitions, in close collaboration with CAF, all of its 54 member national federations throughout Africa and other stakeholders. I am convinced that we will ensure that African football reaches the highest level where it should be because the quality and potential are there," said the president of the international federation during a press conference.
