LaLiga: Javier Tebas announces his resignation and his willingness to stand in a new election

Javier Tebas has resigned as president of LaLiga "to open," he says, "an election process for the presidency. I will be a candidate, and I hope to gain confidence (of the clubs) for another four years," announced the president of the Spanish Professional Football League, via Twitter, on 02/12/2019. In the short term, the director's committee, largely comprising of department heads, is in charge of LaLiga.

To explain a tactic already used in 2016 and perhaps intended to catch potential rivals off-guard (see below), the Spanish leader puts forward four reasons for this resignation and the call for a new election, the first concerns the domestic TV rights schedule: "We must try to give the the most stable institution possible, as LaLiga has the enormous responsibility to manage the most important asset of the clubs, which are their audiovisual rights (he refers to a total value figure close to €2.2bn).
