Brazil 2014: suspension of work on temporary stands in Sao Paulo after the death of a worker

The work for constructing two temporary stands in the Corinthians Arena of Sao Paulo (65,800 seats) was suspended on 31/03/2014, after the death of a worker who fell on 29/03/2014. The Department of Labour of the State of Sao Paulo announced the suspension of laying 20,000 temporary seats until nets are installed to protect the workers who work at altitude.

Fast Engenharia, the company responsible for the installation of the temporary stands, stated that it "will analyse the technical demands made by (labour officials) and then will make an announcement about the case and its consequences to the construction timetable."

Corinthians Arena, which will host six matches, including the opening match, is scheduled to be delivered in mid-April, and should be inaugurated on 27/04/2014. However, the stadium may not be fully completed for the start of the World Cup: the roof and some giant screens may not be installed on time.
