Milan: the City wants to keep the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, AC Milan and Inter to review their plans

"We have received today the indication that the Milan City Hall (Lombardy, ITA) wishes to keep the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium for the organisation of sporting events. The objective is now to work on this hypothesis. Once again, the two clubs have made themselves available to collaborate, propose ideas on preserving San Siro and work with the municipality," said Alessandro Antonello, corporate CEO of FC Internazionale Milano (Serie A TIM), after a meeting between Inter, AC Milan (Serie A TIM) and the Milan City Hall on 03/12/2019.

The purpose of this meeting was the project led by the two clubs for the construction of a new shared stadium, accompanied by urban renewal in the San Siro district. The two clubs plan to build a 60,000 capacity stadium next to the current Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (78,328 capacity), which should - in their project - be destroyed to make way for a commercial area dedicated to sport, entertainment and shopping. The total construction cost of the project is estimated at €1.2bn, including €650m for the stadium alone.
