The DFL tested the broadcasting of a football match in a 9:16 format (vertically adapted for viewing on social networks on smartphones), for VfL Wolfsburg - Werder Bremen SV (2-3), Matchday 13 of the 2019-20 Bundesliga season, on 01/12/2019, "a world first," according to the German football league on 04/12/2019.

The broadcast was carried out independently of the basic signal using five additional cameras. These cameras were tilted using special tripods.

"We are very satisfied with the test. As always, we develop innovations by adopting the fan’s perspective. We see that vertical videos in social media on mobile devices are better received than ones in horizontal orientation," said Andreas Heyden, executive vice-president of digital innovations at the DFL.
