Italy: €4.7bn in annual turnover generated by football (FIGC 2018 Integrated Balance Sheet)

€4.7bn is the annual turnover generated by Italian football, according to the Integrated Balance Sheet 2018 presented in Rome (ITA) by the FIGC on 05/12/2019 (report to download). "This document, now in its fourth edition, analyzes the social, economic and financial capital that football represents for Italy," said the Italian Football Federation.

"12% of the wealth of world football is produced in Italy. 'Calcio' remains the main contributor of the sports system in terms of taxes and social charges, with nearly €1.2bn generated only by professional football (+37% between 2006 and 2016) and an impact of 70% of the total tax revenue generated by the Italian sport sector," said FIGC when the report was published.

Italian football, which belongs to the Top 10 sectors of economic activity of the country, also includes, underlines 2018 report, "4.6 million practitioners, 1.35 million licensees, nearly 570,000 official matches played per year, of which 99% at amateur level and youth categories, and 32.4 million Italians interested in football".
