France: Canal+ €330m to sub-license Ligue 1 rights from beIN Sports, €310m for the Champions League

The free and pay-TV group Canal+ will sub-licensed the Ligue 1 broadcasting rights acquired by the pay-TV group beIN Sports France over the 2020-2024 cycle, "at cost price, or €330m per year," said Maxime Saada, chairman of the board of Canal+, to the French media Le Figaro on 09/12/2019.

Canal+ has entered into exclusive negotiations with beIN Sports France in order to sub-license these rights, and in return be the exclusive distributor of the latter on all its platforms and to all third-party operators in France, announced the two groups on 09/12/2019.

Lot 3 on the broadcasting rights to Ligue 1 (2020-2024 cycle) acquired by beIN Sports France and subject to the sub-license agreement includes:
• Two games per matchday, Saturday at 21:00 CET and Sunday at 17:00.
• 28 choice first choice matches + 10 third choice matches.
• 38 4th choice matches.
• Saturday night magazine.
Of these 76 matches in total, 57 will be exclusive to Canal+ since the Chinese-Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro, which holds the rights to all other Ligue 1 matches (eight games per matchday, or 304 per…
