The OTT platform DAZN has acquired the broadcasting rights, in Germany, to the Champions League (excluding the best Tuesday night game, acquired by Amazon on 10/12/2019), for the 2021-2024 cycle, according to the German media on 12/12/2019.

The broadcasting rights of the final in free-to-air have been acquired by the German public broadcasting group ZDF. With the exception of the final, the competition will be broadcast entirely in Germany by OTT operators (DAZN, and the VoD Amazon Prime Video), a first in Europe.

The pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland, which shares the rights of the Champions League in the current cycle (2018-2021) with DAZN, and which has broadcast the competition in Germany since 2000, was not awarded any lots of this call for tenders.

  • "In the recently completed tender process, we have not been able to agree on further cooperation after around 20 years of partnership with UEFA," says Carsten Schmidt, CEO of Sky Deutschland, to the German newspaper Bild on 12/12/2019.
