FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) published the 2014 edition of its testing manual for goal-line technology on 01/04/2014. The main change in this new version is the accuracy requirement, which has shifted from +/- 3cm to +/- 1.5cm.

"This means that in order to be certified as of the effective date of this new manual, all installed systems may not exceed the tolerance of 15mm between the ball physically crossing the line and the position measured by the goal-line technology system," said FIFA.

As of October 2014, all goal-line technology systems must be in accordance with the 2014 manual. FIFA allows a transition period of six months, as of 01/04/2014, to allow facilities to be upgraded to the new requirements.
