FIFA: legal claims to recover the 2 million Swiss francs paid to Michel Platini in 2011

"FIFA has today filed claims in the relevant Swiss courts against former FIFA president Joseph Blatter and former FIFA vice-president Michel Platini, seeking restitution of the CHF 2m (i.e. €1.54m at the time of payment) unduly paid to Mr Platini back in February 2011," announced the international federation on 12/16/2019.

"This follows the unanimous resolution recently adopted (on 25/11/2019) by the FIFA Governance Committee in which it emphasised that FIFA was duty-bound to try to recover the funds illicitly paid by one former official to another," said FIFA.

Michel Platini was been suspended from playing football for four years, from 08/10/2015 to 07/10/2019, for having received a controversial payment of 2 million Swiss francs from FIFA on 01/02/2011, for his activities as advisor to Joseph Blatter (himself suspended for six years), then president of the international federation, during the period 1999-2002.
