Spain: Javier Tebas "officially proclaimed president of LaLiga for the next four years"

"Javier Tebas is officially proclaimed president of LaLiga for the next four years," announced the Spanish professional league in a press release on 23/12/2019.

Exactly as he had previously done in 2016, Javier Tebas resigned from his post 10 months before the end of his term (October 2020) "in order to open an electoral process for the presidency", he explained on Twitter on 02/12/2019, adding: "I will be a candidate and I hope to gain confidence for another four years."

As the only candidate, he was "provisionally proclaimed president of LaLiga" 16 days later, on 18/12/2019, following a meeting of the electoral commission which had verified that his candidacy had "been presented on time and in the forms, respecting the statutes and regulations."

Javier Tebas received the support of 34 of the 42 professional clubs. Among those that did not support him were Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona and Athletic Club Bilbao.
