Southampton FC (Premier League) have created an eSports team by recruiting the player Owen Venn (ENG), alias "SaintsVenny" - who will play on the FIFA 20 video game, announced the club on 19/12/2019. Southampton thus becomes the fifth 2019-20 Premier League club to launch an eSports division.

Owen Venn will represent Southampton FC in several competitions during the 2019-20 season, including the second edition of the ePremier League (ePL). Venn had previously represented the Saints in the 2018-19 edition of the ePL, although he was not contractually bound to the club at the time.

"The club's support of Owen will also see it endeavour to assist him in areas away from gaming, such as sports psychology, nutrition and fitness, as he bids to follow the club's philosophy of turning potential into excellence and adopt a number of practices used in professional sports," said Southampton FC.

"We are always striving to connect and engage with fans and audiences in new and exciting ways" (L. Nicholson, Southampton FC)
