World Cup 2018 and 2022: FIFA launches tender for TV rights in the UK

FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) launched the tender for broadcasting rights in the United Kingdom for the 2018 (Russia) and 2022 (Qatar) World Cups on 04/04/2014. The rights include TV, online TV (IPTV), Internet, mobile platforms and radio.

Applicants may request an application via e-mail, from europe-media-tender@fifa.org, specifying the name and position of the people who would participate in negotiations with the international body. A question and answer session regarding the tender document has been scheduled by FIFA for between 04 and 25/04/2014.

Interested broadcasters must submit their offers to the international body by 28/04/2014, before 17:00 CET (Central European Time). Negotiations with the candidates will begin on 29/04/2014. The British public broadcaster, BBC, and the private British free-TV company, ITV, are co-broadcasters of the 2014 World Cup (Brazil, from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) in the United Kingdom. The entire World Cup is on the list of major sporting events in the UK, meaning that it must be broadcast for free.
