FC Barcelona: 72.36% of socios vote for "Nou Espai Barça," including Camp Nou renovation

Of FC Barcelona's socios (Liga BBVA), 72.36% voted in favour of the urban project "Nou Espai Barça," which includes the renovation of Camp Nou at a cost of €600m, on 05/04/2014. "I’m very satisfied. It’s a great day, a democratic festival for the Barça members... It’s a huge project that will improve the club for years to come," said Josep Maria Bartomeu, president of FC Barcelona.

Of the 37,535 socios who participated in the referendum (31.6% of the socios allowed to vote), 27,161 were in favour of the project (72.36%), 9,589 (25.55%) voted against it, 751 (2%) made a blank vote and 34 (0.09%) made an invalid vote.

Of the €600m project, €420m will be spent on the renovation of Camp Nou, €90m for the construction of the Palau Blaugrana (an arena of 10,000 seats), and €90m will be devoted to creating more parking (5,000 spaces), at the new Mini Estadi (home of the youth teams) and Espai Barça (retail space).

The new Camp Nou will have a capacity of 105,000 covered seats against 99,350 seats currently. Work should begin in May 2017 and end in February 2021.
