IOC: Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, elected member of the International Olympic Committee

FIFA president Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI) has been elected as a member of the IOC at the Olympic body's 135th session in Lausanne (SUI) on 10/01/2020.

79 IOC members took part in the vote. Gianni Infantino received 63 votes (79.7%). 13 members voted against (16.4%) and 3 abstained.

The IOC welcomes two other new members: American David Haggerty, president of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), and former Japanese judoka (Olympic champion in 1984) Yasuhiro Yamashita, president of the Japanese Olympic Committee.

Joseph Blatter (SUI), Gianni Infantino's predecessor as president of FIFA (1998-2016), was a also a member of the IOC from 1999 to 2015.

  • Football will feature at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo (JPN), from 22/07 to 08/08/2020, with a women's and a men's tournament.
    • The matches will take place at seven venues in six host cities.
