Italian born, Maurizio Pellegrino, has been named manager of Catania (Serie A), announced the club on 06/04/2014. He takes over Rolando Maran who had held the position since 16/01/2014.

This is the second time that Rolando Maran has been sacked by Catania during the 2013-14 season. He was relieved of his duties on 20/10/2013 (replaced by Luigi De Canio) before being rehired as manager of the Sicilian club three months later. Catania won only 2 of the 21 matches played with Rolando Maran at the head of the team this season.

Maurizio Pellegrino was the manager of Catania between 2001 and 2003, contributing to the promotion of the club from Serie C (3rd division), to Serie B (second division) after the 2001-02 season. He has been serving as coordinator of the youth teams of the club since the start of the 2013-14 season.

Catania are 20th (last place) in Serie A after 32 matchdays (20 points, 4 wins, 8 draws and 20 losses). The club is seven points behind Bologna, first team above the non-relegation zone (17th, 27 points).
