Sporting goods: annual growth rate of 7% (2017-2023) predicted value of $627bn in 2023 (Capitalmind)

The sporting goods market had a market value of $471bn in 2018 (€411bn as of 31/12/2018) and is expected to reach $627bn in 2023, with a 2017-2023 annual growth rate of 7%, according to Capitalmind, a European financial advisory firm, in its Sporting Goods Brands - Sector Report published in December 2019.

"China continues to be an important market, representing the second largest source of demand and 34% of global growth," states the report, as the country has three major brands (Li Ning, Anta and Xtep) among the top 50 sports brands in terms of revenue in 2018 (see details below).

American companies account for 50% (25 companies) of this Top 50, which is dominated by Nike (USA) ahead of adidas (GER). No British brands feature in the Top 50, while Decathlon and Lacoste, the only French companies featured, are fifth and fifteenth respectively.
