UEFA: in 10 out of 55 European countries, at least 75% of first division clubs have a women's team

In 10 of UEFA's 55 countries, including France and England, at least 75% of men's first division clubs have a women's teams, according to the 11^th edition of the "European Club Footballing Landscape report" published by UEFA on 16/01/2020.

"43 top divisions have at least one senior men team that also has a senior women team. On average, the size of the men’s top division leagues consists of 12.3 teams, whereas the average across women's top division leagues is 9.3 teams," said UEFA in Chapter 2 of its annual report, which is dedicated to Women's football. With 16 clubs in its elite division, Spain has the largest women's first division in the world.

"Northern Ireland is the only country where the women's league is organised by a separate entity. In the other 51 countries, the national association performs that role. In men's football, by comparison, there are 28 top divisions where a separate league entity carries out some or all tasks. Of the 52 national associations that have women’s leagues, 33 have a system of promotion and relegation," said UEFA.
