eSports: US Lecce (Serie A TIM) creates a team and will recruit a player via a regional tournament

US Lecce (Serie A TIM) has launched an eSports team with a view to taking part in the official eSports championship to be officially presented by Lega Serie A "in the next few days," announced the Italian club on 18/01/2020.

"Most clubs that create an eSports team recruit professional players who, in the US for example, earn more money than real footballers. In China, 20,000-capacity stadiums are built to watch two opponents play on PlayStation! We at US Lecce choose not to have professional players. We are going to organise a tournament to designate the "Salentino" (inhabitant of Salento, the region of Lecce, in Puglia, ITA) who will defend our colours," explained Andrea Micati, marketing director of US Lecce.

"For the past year, Lega Serie A has been working on the official eSports championship project, which will be played by the 20 Serie A TIM clubs and which will feature teams of four players.
