"For the second year running, eSports ranks first in terms of its potential to grow revenues by sports discipline, and does so across all regions. It seems that sports leaders do not expect the excitement surrounding eSports to die down any time soon," said audit and consultancy firm PwC, in the 2019 edition of its "Sports Survey" entitled "Sports industry: time to refocus?" published in January 2020.

"The overall sports market is expected to grow at a healthy annual rate of 6.4% in the next 3-5 years, albeit below the 7.4% seen in the past 3-5 years. In terms of revenue streams, digital media rights are expected to be the key driver of overall growth, with growth rates of 9.7% expected over the next 3-5 years," states PwC in its report.

"Sports leaders are fully aware of the imperative of innovation, with nearly 94% considering the ability of a sports organisation to innovate as either important (15%) or very important (79%).
