The German public TV channels ARD and ZDF will take turns to broadcast the matches of the German team during the 2020-21 Nations League, the format of which was changed by UEFA, on 24/09/2019.

This change of format (from 12 to 16 teams in Leagues A, B and C with groups of four teams instead of three) with two additional group matches had led to a rights imbroglio for the broadcasting of matches of the German national team as for the 2018-2022 cycle, ZDF and ARD hold the rights to matches of the Mannschaft in the Nations League and the free and private TV channel RTL, those of the qualifiers (Euro 2020, World Cup 2022) and friendly matches.

ARD and ZDF had recovered the broadcasting rights to two friendly matches (Spain - Germany on 26/03/2020 and Germany - Italy on 31/03/2020) following Germany's failure to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2018-19 Nations League. These two friendly matches will now be broadcast on RTL as ARD and ZDF will broadcast two additional Nations League group matches in 2020.
