Juventus FC: Cristiano Ronaldo passes the 200 million followers mark on Instagram

Portuguese international forward Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus FC, Serie A TIM) has passed the 200 million followers mark on Instagram on 29/01/2020. No other personality, sporting or otherwise, has yet managed to reach this level of popularity on the social network.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is followed, among the footballers still playing, by Argentinian international Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona, LaLiga Santander), who has 142 million followers (as of 30/01/2020), Brazilian Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior (Paris Saint-Germain, Ligue 1 Conforama) 133 million, and Colombian James Rodriguez (Real Madrid CF, LaLiga Santander) 45 million. Former England international David Beckham (61 million) and Brazilian Ronaldinho (51 million), both retired, are also among the most popular players.

Cristiano Ronaldo has twice as many followers as Nike, the most popular sports brand on Instagram with nearly 100 million fans on his main account.
