Bundesliga TV rights (2021-2025): the future tender submitted to the German Competition Authority

Holger Blask, director of audiovisual rights at the DFL, unveiled the lots of the future tender for the domestic broadcasting rights of the Bundesliga and the 2.Bundesliga (2021-2025 cycle), which were subject to the review of the Bundeskartellamt (the German Competition Authority), at the Spobis conference in Düsseldorf (Germany) on 29/01/2020.

The call for tenders is composed of seven lots for live matches (below), as well as seven lots for highlights and video clips and is expected to be launched at the end of February 2020 with a result in May 2020. The main changes compared to the previous call for tenders (2017-2021 cycle) are the increase in the number of free-to-air matches (nine versus six currently), the discontinuation of Monday night matches and the grouping of Friday night and Sunday matches into a single lot.

The seven lots for live matches:
A: pay-TV: 166 Bundesliga matches (35 multiplexes) on Saturday at 15:30 (CET), or Tuesday/Wednesday at 20:30.
