eSports: RFEF unveils the "eCopa" to recruit players for the Spanish national efootball team

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Spanish publishing and media group Grupo Planeta have unveiled the "eCopa RFEF" an official eSports tournament that "will make it possible for eSports players to represent Spain in official FIFA competitions," said the Spanish Federation on 04/02/2020. 

"The eCopa RFEF tournament will consist of two phases of competition, the first online and the second face-to-face, with two tournaments on the weekends of 07-08 and 28-29/03/2020. The online phase, which will start on 17/02/2020, will be divided into four regional groups with a single-elimination format for the return match. The two finalists from each regional group and from each platform (PlayStation 4 and Xbox) will play the on-site final of the regional tournament. The eCopa RFEF finalists will qualify directly for the grand final. The remaining players will be joined by the best players from the official FIFA ranking. The two winners, one for each console, will represent Spain at the FIFA eNations Cup in May," explained the Spanish Federation.
